Belgium celebrates Father’s Day on 19 of march, which is also St. Joseph’s Day, as the Catholic Church holds a significant influence on this culture. There can’t be a better occasion than Father’s Day to show your gratitude and love to fathers in all possible ways. Following are some ways to celebrate Father’s Day in Belgium.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Belgian Beer
  • Greeting Card
  • Scrapbook
  • Food including ingredients and recipes
  • Gift
  • Belgian chocolates

Step1
Start by making your father’s morning special with his favorite breakfast. Serve some of the classics like Belgian waffles with fresh fruits and syrup, frites and assorted breads with spreads such as marmalade, jams and Nutella. Include tea, coffee and fresh juices.
Step2
Consider taking your father out for a brunch or lunch if breakfast is not his thing.
Step3
Take him to his favorite restaurant or a new restaurant which serves his favorite cuisine.
Step4
Plan a homemade meal, which can be lunch or dinner and invite your father for it. You may serve him traditional Belgian recipes like mussels and chips, endives with Bechamel sauce, Vlaamse karbonade (beef chunks cooked in beer), stoemp (mashed potatoes with vegetables) with Ardennes sausage or kroketten (cheese or shrimp in breadcrumbs).
Step5
Remember to serve his favorite Belgian beer, since Belgium is so renowned for its beer.
Step6
Finish off with assorted Belgium chocolates to satisfy your father’s sweet tooth. Or you may consider serving him his favorite dessert if he’s not much of a chocolate person.
Step7
Surprise him with a handmade card. Write a message in the card for your dad and tell him how special he is.
Step8
Reserve your whole day for him. Time is the most precious thing you can give him. Do some of his favorite things together--hiking, fishing, watching a sports game on TV, going for movies and so on.
Step9
Gift him a thoughtful present. Select a gift that complements his hobbies. For instance, golf club membership or golf paraphernalia for the golfing father, gym membership to the fitness freak dad and so on. You can search and order a gift online. For more information, see Resources below.
Step10
Throw a party for your father. Invite your friends, relatives and dear ones. Prepare a few words for your father in advance to be spoken in the party. Speak out your heart at the party showing all the gratitude towards him.
Step11
Prepare a scrapbook for him in advance. Paste some of the best pictures of you and your dad. Label its cover page with a nice phrase such as “For the Best Father in the World”. Place the scrapbook on his bed at night before he goes off to bed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Start preparing for the day in advance. This will save your time on Father’s Day and you can allocate enough time for your father.
  • Remember your grandfathers, elder brothers, uncles and even your teachers who helped you grow as a person. Make sure you give them a call and wish them HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY.
