How to Choose Wedding Favors

Before you choose wedding favors, you should get to know what a wedding favor is. A wedding favor is a small gift of appreciation from the bride and groom to a wedding guest, typically given at the reception dinner.

1. Set your budget for wedding favors. A wedding is a multi-faceted and expensive event, so spending too much money on favors will detract from the overall quality of the event.

2. Examine your other choices of flowers, bridesmaid’s dresses and colors. Find a common element that ties these choices together.

3. Comparison shop for favors that feature this common element. Pay attention to your budget as you make a list of gifts.
   
   

4. Run through your list of items. Look for favors that really jump out at you and say “Thank you for attending my wedding.”

5. Select the favor or group of favors that works the best as a thank you gift. Order enough to fit the expected number of guests at the reception.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are purchasing favors as bridesmaids gifts, you may want to spend a little more than if you were getting these items for the entire reception party.
• Don’t make your final purchases of the favors until you know the exact number of guests at the reception.
• Here is an all-purpose favor: a wedding flower in a simple vase. For elegance, a single white rose, which denotes friendship, is hard to beat.
• Don’t pinch pennies too much with the wedding favors. Also, don’t worry yourself into a frazzle with do-it yourself favors. Find a happy medium.
