Weddings are some of the happiest events in the world, but they aren't cheap! If you have recently become engaged, planning your wedding could be a financial nightmare. However, if you work hard to learn how to budget, it can be a success without breaking the bank.

Things You'll Need:

  • A savings account

    Determine Your Savings

  1. Step 1

    Plan the date of your wedding.

  2. Step 2

    Open a savings account specifically for your wedding fund.

  3. Step 3

    Transfer as much money as possible into your wedding fund.

  4. Step 4

    Determine how much you can save every month. Multiply this by the number of months until your wedding.

  5. Step 5

    Determine how much, if any, your parents are willing to pay.

  6. Step 6

    Decide with your significant other how much money you are willing to charge on a credit card or take out with a personal loan.

  7. Step 7

    Add your current savings, the amount you want to save, gifts, and loans to get a grand total. This is how much you can spend on your wedding.

    Determine how much money from your grand total you will allocate towards dresses and tuxedos, the reception hall, the entertainment, the flowers, the cake and all other parts of your wedding.

  10. Step 2

    Save some extra money in case things cost more than expected.

    Shop around for the best prices, sticking to your budget.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your bridesmaids chip in to purchase their dresses.
  • Instead of signing up for a gift registry, have your guests give money to be used toward your honeymoon.
  • Use flowers that are in season.
  • Makes as many of the decorations as possible yourself.
  • If you sign any contracts with photographers, consultants or other companies, read them thoroughly so you know what charges you will incur.
