Without print drivers, your computer won't be able to print. If you have upgraded to Windows Vista, you may find yourself unable to print due to compatibility issues. Here is how to find the right printer drivers to use with Vista.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Go to the Microsoft Web site and see if they have the right printer drivers that you'll need to use with Vista. Chances are, the right drivers or patches will be available here.
Step2
Head to the printer manufacturer's Web site. Look in the customer support section for lists of updated drivers for use with Vista.
Step3
Download the new driver. Prepare your computer for installation by shutting down any currently running programs.
Step4
Run through the steps of the installation wizard. You may have to restart your computer when this process is finished.

Step5
Try your printer again. If you experience problems you may have to go into the Hardware Manager to manually enable the new printer driver.

Tips & Warnings

  • The drastic way to get a new print driver: buy a new printer. Many new printers come with their drivers on a CD-ROM. Look for the Windows Vista compatible label on the printer's packaging.
  • Make sure that you are not trying to download drivers from a spoofed site. You may be opening your computer up to a nasty virus.
  • You may need to roll back new drivers should their performance be even worse than the original drivers.
