Connecticut State may be small but it’s packed with places to get hitched. From urban to rustic, elaborate to intimate, there are hundreds of locations, indoors and out, to meet your needs. Bed & breakfasts, inns and seaside hotels are abundant in the area. Before you walk down the aisle in Connecticut, make sure you get your medical tests and marriage license at least three days before your wedding.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Identification
  • Cash

Step1
Collect one picture ID for both the bride and groom.
Step2
Gather certified final divorce decrees if either or both parties have been married previously. Alternatively, a certificate of death of a previous spouse should be obtained.
Step3
Visit the Web site under the Resources section to find the location of the marriage license issuing office in the county where the ceremony will take place.
Step4
Visit the county Web site to find the location, hours and directions to the county office you will be applying.
Step5
Head to the county office with bride, groom, documentation (including premarital certificate) and $35 cash within 65 days of the ceremony.

Tips & Warnings

  • First cousin marriages are permitted.
  • Minors under 18 years old may marry with written consent from a probate judge and parents or guardian.
  • Both the bride and the groom must be present to apply for and sign the marriage license.
  • Proxy, common law and same sex marriages are forbidden.
  • Connecticut marriage licenses are valid for 65 days.
