There wouldn’t be any problems at all holding the wedding of your dreams if you didn’t have to pay for it. In reality, though, weddings are expensive. But that doesn’t mean you can’t host the perfect wedding on a budget. All it takes is a little discipline and effort. Here are some steps to save money at bridal shops.

Things You'll Need:

  • budget
  1. Step 1

Sit down with your fiancé and set a date. Knowing a general idea of what the weather will be like will affect your choice of bridal accessories which can be purchased at bridal shops.

  2. Step 2

Set a budget for the amount you are able to spend. Use this as a guide, as you should be able to come in under that budgeted amount. But you can use the extra money to spend it on another aspect of the wedding.

  3. Step 3

Plan a date with the bridesmaids to go to a local bridal store. With their help, get a general concept of what is for sale and what the prices are. Use their advice and their experience in such matters to understand the market of bridal accessories. This will give you an idea of how much most products cost.

  4. Step 4

Take the information you gathered from Step 2, and attend a bridal fair in your area. These are usually held in civic convention centers, and host businesses from all over the area, peddling their products. You can then compare the prices from your local store(s) and see if they match up.

  5. Step 5

Go back to the bridal shop you first attended and shop the prices you found at the bridal fair. You may be able to negotiate a lower price for the products there.

  6. Step 6

Make your final decisions on what you want to buy and from whom to purchase. If you followed the steps, you should be able to get the best deals possible and come in under your budget.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tell the bridal shop you are willing to give them your business for everything they have available if you can get some kind of volume discount. Negotiation is key; don’t be afraid to ask.
  • Ask friends and family for advice on what they did for their wedding. Make the decision for yourself, but factoring in personal experience will help you make the best decision.
  • Make sure the vendors from which you want to purchase are on the level.
  • Make sure to ask for guaranteed delivery if purchasing from someone out of town, or through an online vendor. Have a backup plan set in place after you purchase if delivery is involved.
