The wedding reception is when the party really gets started. It is also where most of the money gets spent. Depending on what you’re looking for as far as music is concerned, it could take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget. With a little planning and thought you should have no trouble if you want to save money on wedding reception music.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • band
  • mp3 player

Step1
Decide if you want a band or a DJ for your wedding reception. Bands tend to be a lot more expensive than a DJ. Hiring a DJ is a great way to save money on wedding reception music.
Step2
Hire a friend or family member to DJ at your wedding reception. If you know someone who DJs, you will probably be able to book them for a lot less than a DJ you don’t know. Ask family members and friends if they know anyone who DJs to help you save money.
Step3
Use an MP3 player to save money on wedding reception music. Using an MP3 player at your wedding reception will save you money and let you play the music you want to hear during your wedding reception.
Step4
Book the DJ or band for your wedding reception early. If you do decide on a band or a DJ, you will want to book them well in advance. Booking a band or a DJ on short notice will usually come with a premium price.
Step5
Find a DJ that is not well known and is trying to make a name for their self. Hire a DJ that is just starting out to help you save money on wedding reception music. A DJ that is new to the business will usually charge less since they are tying to get as much business as possible.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get references for anyone you hire. If the band or DJ won’t give you references they probably aren’t worth your money.
  • Make sure the band or DJ plays the music you want to hear. No matter who you hire, make sure they have a list of the type of music you want at your wedding reception.
  • A downfall of using an MP3 player for your wedding reception music is people cannot make requests.
  • Be cautious when hiring friends and family to DJ your wedding reception if they are not experienced. Just because Uncle Steve has great taste in music doesn’t mean he’ll be a good DJ.
