From the Cascade Mountain range to the expanse of Puget Sound, the state of Washington is a bastion of beauty in the Northwest of the United States. It’s also home to Seattle, the biggest little city in the country. Washington has a lot to offer you as an engaged couple. Follow these steps to get married in Washington.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • marriage license
  • identification
Step1
Get a marriage license from the state of Washington. Washington is one of the easier states to get licensed in, some counties don’t even require photo identification. Plan on spending around $50 in cash, though.
Step2
Find the person you want to perform the ceremony. In the state of Washington, any number of people can perform it: clergy members, judges, county clerks, etc.
Step3
Decide on a date. However, don’t make it too specific if you don’t have to. The more flexible you are with your date (as in marriage) the easier the rest of the process will go.
Step4
Choose where you want the ceremony and reception to be held. Preferably they should be close to one another (walking distance or a short car ride).
Step5
Plan the particulars. Get a cake, dress, band and choose the wedding party. Tie up any of a hundred other things, too.
Step6
Invite people. The guest list can be a touchy subject. Remain conscious of cost, but stay sensitive to your fiancé’s wants and needs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rent or reserve whatever venue you choose for your wedding, reception and honeymoon as soon as the dates for each are set. Slacking off in this department can throw a very large wrench in the planning of your Washington wedding.
  • Blood tests (nor any other tests) are required for the granting of a marriage license in the state of Washington.
  • If you are 17, you’ll need parental consent, and if you’re under the age of 17 the state of Washington will not grant you a marriage license.
  • Marriage to your cousin is illegal in the state of Washington.
