Oregon is the emerald of the Pacific Northwest and the perfect setting to tie the knot. Oregon weddings have the same romantic character as the old-growth forests that line the coast of this state. If you’re considering it, here’s how to get married in Oregon.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Marriage license
  • Identification
Step1
Get a marriage license. All you need is some form of official photo identification such as a driver’s license (see Resources below).
Step2
Set a date. Don’t announce the date or the venue to your guests until you’re sure that you’ve secured it.
Step3
Hire somebody to perform the ceremony. Most ordained members of the clergy as well as a some public officials (judges, justices and county clerks) can perform the ceremony.
Step4
Make a plan for the ceremony. A wedding ceremony (and the reception) should have a color scheme and it should be reflected in the wedding party attire and flowers.
Step5
Plan transportation. If the wedding and reception are going to be in two different places, the bride and groom (and others) will need rides to the reception.
Step6
Invite the guests. Make a list and send out invitations making sure to secure as many RSVPs as possible in adance of your deadlline.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will need to have at least two witnesses over the age of 18 at the ceremony. This is usually not a problem because any of the wedding guests can serve as witnesses.
  • Depending on the county in which you apply, the fee for a marriage license ranges from $50 to $60.
  • If you’re under 18, you must have consent from your parents or guardians. If you’re under 17, you cannot be married in the state of Oregon.
