Step 1
Choose the date and location for your wedding. After that, go to the County Clerk's Office and apply for a marriage license (see Resources below).

Be ready to show proof of your age by providing a birth certificate or driver's license. You will also need to supply such information about your parents as their places of birth and your mother's maiden name.

Bring a parent or guardian with you if you are younger than 18 to provide a verbal assent or written approval that must signed by a witness. In either case, the addresses and social security numbers of all parties will need to be recorded.

Step 4
Apply alone if your spouse-to-be cannot attend with you. However, you must provide all the required information for your partner, including copies of a driver's license and social security card. You must also provide a witness who can verify that both you and your partner can legally marry.

Step 5
Provide necessary paperwork if you are divorced or a previous spouse is deceased. You must provide a certfied copy of the dissolution of marriage or death certificate.
