The Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Oklahoma as possessing the most diverse terrain in terms of climactic variation. So, as you might guess, there’s a little something for every bride and groom here when choosing a place to tie the knot. Here's how to get married in Oklahoma.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Marriage license
  • Identification

Step1
Choose a date. With so many microclimates in Oklahoma, the date can affect the type of wedding you have depending on the season you choose.
Step2
Choose a place. Mountains and rivers, big cities and small farms are all abundant in the state. There’s a setting for any type of wedding in Oklahoma (see Resources below).
Step3
Get a marriage license. You must supply your social security number and show a driver’s license, passport or birth certificate. Depending on the county in which you apply, the marriage license fee will be between $25 and $50 (see References below).
Step4
Hire an ordained clergy member or a public official certified to perform your marriage ceremony. Otherwise, if you’re not going to have a ceremony, you can have an official in the county courthouse perform the marriage immediately.
Step5
Plan the reception. Receptions can be a quiet gathering at home to a complete party with a live band at a local club. Focus on your budget first, then think about the type of reception you'd like to have.
Step6
Invite your friends and family. Remember to collect an RSVP from each guest so that you know how many to prepare for.

Tips & Warnings

  • Reserve whatever venue you decide on for the ceremony as soon as you’ve settled on a date. This will give you and your fiancé the best opportunity to get the venue you want on the date you want it.
  • Same-sex marriages are not allowed in Oklahoma.
  • If you’re between the ages of 16 and 18, you’ll need consent from a parent or guardian when purchasing your marriage license.
