Frying Worms

Step1
Bake your worms at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius) for 10-15 minutes.
Step2
Cut the worms into smaller pieces if desired.
Step3
Coat the worms in a light dusting of white or whole wheat flour. Very fine breadcrumbs may also be used.
Step4
Fry in butter or a light vegetable-based oil.
Step5
Add to rice and vegetable dishes, pizza, burgers, sandwiches or any other dish that might benefit from some wormy goodness.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pound for pound, worms have more protein than beef and most other protein foods—and they’re lower in fat and contain plenty of essential minerals, too.
  • When baking worms, it’s best to freeze them first for around one hour.
  • Baked worms cut into small pieces can be added to cookies, cakes and breads, too.
  • Baked worms can be added to soups and stews either in chunks or after puréeing. Puréed worms can also be added to dressings and dips.
  • When cooking with worms, it’s very important to make sure they’re clean and properly purged. It’s best to buy worms from a supplier such as Grubco.
