Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Start out by joining in a dance like “YMCA” or a line dance that has steps and gestures that you can follow. This will help you relax and feel more comfortable on the dance floor.
Step2
Find a partner—someone you know well and feel at ease with is best. That way you can start out by imitating their steps before adding your own variations.
Step3
Let the beat of the music guide you. If it’s fast-paced you’ll be moving faster than you would to a slow song. Beginners might want to start out with medium-paced music, which tends to be easier to dance to.
Step4
Snap your fingers or clap your hands, sway from side to side or move your feet from side to side. These are simple steps that almost anyone can do, and chances are it’s what most of the people on the dance floor are doing.
Step5
Try to relax and enjoy yourself without worrying too much about how you look. Being self-conscious is one of the biggest stumbling blocks when it comes to dancing.
