If you’re a dog owner you’ve probably experienced this problem many times—when you housebreak your puppy they’re inclined to have “accidents," and once they’ve fouled one spot they’re more likely to return there and do it again. If you can get the smell and the stain of dog urine out thoroughly it’s much easier to prevent them from repeating the behavior.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brush
  • Water
  • Carpet cleaner
  • White paper towels
  • Odor remover
  • Vacuum cleaner
  1. Step 1

Use white paper towels to blot as much of the urine as you can. Make sure you blot rather than rub to prevent further damage to your carpet or upholstery.

  2. Step 2

Rinse the area by pouring a full glass of clean water over the stain.

  3. Step 3

Use more white paper towels to blot up the urine and water.

  4. Step 4

Repeat steps one to three until the paper towels do not absorb any yellow color.

  5. Step 5

Scrub the stained area with a brush and some carpet cleaner.

  6. Step 6

Spray with carpet cleaner again then remove with a vacuum cleaner following the instructions on the can of carpet cleaner.

  7. Step 7

Spray an odor remover over the stained area.

Tips & Warnings
  • When your dog urinates in the house, clean it up immediately to reduce the likelihood of the stain setting and the odor lingering.
  • Get an odor remover from your local pet store. These are tailored for removing pet odors.
  • It may be tempting to simply scrub out the stain with bleach or another harsh cleaner, but it’s best not to. Use a carpet or upholstery cleaner to make sure that you don’t cause any damage when removing the stain.
