Mugglemagic is correct. What this "eHow Contributing Writer" did was a literal translation word for word in the same order. If you study japanese you soon find out that literal translations can get a lil wonky. When studying jp you can chuck your english grammar right out the window especially when it comes to set phrases, which this of course is. Chichi no hi omedetou(gozaimasu)- is the correct way to say it as stated by muggle. As for "dei" being used for "day", while it does does exist in jp, I believe it's reserved for foreign words, "deikea"(daycare), and for holidays that aren't really celebrated by the country as a whole; "bokutsungu dei" (Boxing day) being an example. Basically these instructions should really be taken down if possible >_

Sorry, but I've been taking Japanese for a year, and this is probably incorrect. 1. If you are congratulating someone, you use "Omedetou". 2. If you are talking to your own father, one usually uses "chichi", meaning "dad" (more casual than "otousan"). 3. "Dei" is most certainly NOT the word for "day". Instead, use the word "hi" for day. 4. Put it all together, and it is... Chichi no hi omedetou. "No" shows possessive. Basically it's saying, "Dad's day congratulations", but that's how Japanese works. Not to be annoying or a burden, but "Yukai Otousan Dei" is positively NOT the correct way to tell a Happy Father's Day to someone.
