Instructions

    • 1

Use eggs that are a few days old and preferably at room temperature. Very fresh eggs can be difficult to peel when they're hard boiled.

    • 2

Put the eggs in a saucepan and ensure the pan is large enough for the eggs to move around while cooking. Fill the pan using cold water to just about ½ inch above the eggs.

    • 3

Put the pan on the stove and turn on the heat to high. Let the water come to a boil and then reduce the heat so the water bubbles gently. Set a timer to go off after 6 minutes if you like hard-boiled eggs slightly soft in the center, or 7 minutes if you prefer the center to be hard.

    • 4

Turn off the heat when the timer goes off and drain the water from the pan. Place the pan under running water for a minute. Turn off the tap and place the pan of water to one side, leaving the eggs in the pan to cool for 2 to 3 minutes -- just enough so you handle them safely.

    • 5

Remove the perfectly boiled eggs from the pan. Peel your eggs when you want to use them in a recipe or eat them.
