Though many of Mississippi's Gulf Coast beaches suffered damage from Hurricane Katrina, most have re-opened. Between them, the Mississippi Gulf Islands and lakes and rivers throughout the state, there are a number of opportunities available if you are trying to find a quiet beach in Mississippi. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Consider the Gulf Islands if you have a boat of your own. The Gulf Islands offer a number of opportunities to find a quiet beach. Only Davis Bayou can be reached by car. If you don't have a boat and still want to go you can arrange transportation from a number of different services licensed by the Gulf Island National Seashore. Find a remote area on West Ship Island and settle in for a quiet and relaxing day.
Step2
Consider the water's edge at Bay St. Louis if you aren't looking to swim but want a quiet beach where you can fish or just relax at the edge of the water.
Step3
Consider Gulfport beaches and Pass Christian along the Gulf Coast.
Step4
Find a quiet beach that is open year round at Turkey Creek Water Park, just south of Decatur, where camping and boating are also possible.
Step5
Consider a trip to Dry Creek Water Park if you're near Mt. Olive. At the lake you can relax and swim in a quiet park.

Tips & Warnings

  • Beaches are less crowded on week days than on weekends.
  • Beaches are more quiet in the mornings and evenings than in the middle of the afternoons.
  • Some Gulf Coast Beaches are still closed because of storm debris in the water.
