Between Boston and Cape Cod, Massachusetts is a popular vacation destination in the summers. But even then, it is possible to find a quiet beach in Massachusetts if you know where to look.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a boat trip out to the Boston Harbor Islands. A short ride by boat or by public ferry, the harbor islands leave plenty of opportunities to explore, swim and just relax.

  2. Step 2

Consider Ballston Beach in the town on Truro on Cape Cod. Traffic is kept down because parking is limited to residents or those with permits; therefore, if you can bicycle in, it's not hard to find some space that's all your own.

  3. Step 3

Consider Head of the Meadow Beach, also in Truro, which is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The beach is managed by the town of Truro, and is more secluded than most beaches in the area.

  4. Step 4

Consider Marconi Beach in the town of South Wellfleet. This is also a part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. When you are at Marconi Beach, you don't see towns and developments; the view is far more natural in all directions.

  5. Step 5

Consider South Cape Beach State Park near Mashpee. The area has a number of small ponds, sand dunes and over a mile of beach to stretch out on.

  6. Step 6

Consider Crane Beach in Ipswich if you are on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Again, you'll be able to relax in an area with a number of sand dunes, and you will also have over four miles of beach on which to find a quiet spot.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're hoping to find a quiet beach on Cape Cod, avoid making the trip on summer weekends.
  • Beaches on the Massachusetts Coast are far less crowded early in the mornings and in the evenings than in the middle of the afternoon.
  • Most of the towns on Cape Cod require town parking permits if you plan to park your car to use the beach; day permits are not often available.
