How to Make a Tequila Sunrise

This drink was popularized by the 1973 Eagles single and a 1988 film starring Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer. A mix of orange juice and grenadine blend together to mimic the stately hues of the early dawn sky.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 ounces tequila
  • orange juice
  • splash of grenadine
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • Cocktail glasses
  • Tequila
  • Grenadine
  • Maraschino cherry
  • Orange juice
  1. Step 1

    Fill a 10-ounce highball glass with ice.

  2. Step 2

    Pour in the tequila.

  3. Step 3

    Top off the drink with orange juice and stir.

  4. Step 4

    Drizzle one splash of grenadine on top, so it slides over the ice and the edges of the glass, giving it the signature sunrise effect.

  5. Step 5

    Garnish with a cherry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use fresh orange juice.
  • Do not stir after drizzling on the grenadine, or you will spoil the sunrise effect.
  • Don't drink and drive.
