Nude beaches are increasing in popularity. More and more people want to experience a bit of freedom from inhibition and visit a nude beach. Use this information to find a nude beach in Portugal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
You will find five official nude beaches in Portugal and numerous unofficial beaches.
Step2
The first official nude beach is Bela Vista, a wide sand beach 2 miles long. The water is shallow and suitable for swimming. The vegetation on the dunes protects sunbathers from the winds, which are common on this beach. To reach Bela Vista, go south from Lisbon to Caparica. Continue south past Praia do Rei to the last beach access at the end of the dirt road. Once on Bela Vista, walk south until you are to the left of the restaurant.
Step3
Another nude beach, Meco, is also south of Lisbon. Located between Sesimbra and Albufeira, Meco is the most popular nude beach in Portugal. A tall cliff provides protection and springs provide good drinking water. In addition, green mud treatments are available for your skin. To reach Meco, take A2 south from Lisbon towards Sesimbra. Turn right towards Alfarim after passing Fernao Ferro. Turn right at the beaches and park. Once on the beach, walk left. After passing a spring you may go without clothes.
Step4
Praia do Salto is in Sines County to the north of Port Covo. Praia do Salto has natural springs with pure fresh water. To the beach and the spring, cautiously navigate down a large rock. To get to this beach, take the A2 South from Lisbon. When you reach Grandola, take the exit towards Sines. Eventually you must turn south towards Algarve on the IC 4. After this area, turn right towards Porto Covo. Once through this town, turn right onto a tar road. This road will lead you to the beaches in this area, including Salto.
Step5
Adegas is close to Odeceixe Beach. Here you will find an intimate bay with plenty of rocks for privacy. Even during the peak season the beach is very clean due to regular trash pick up. You will find nude couples and families as well as singles on this beach. Travel south out of Odemira on N120. Once you have crossed the Seixe River, turn right. Drive about 5 miles to Odeceixe Beach. Continue for another 500 meters or so to a parking lot. Park your car and walk down the stairs to the beach.
Step6
Ilha de Tavira is the final official nude beach in Portugal. The water here is warm and the beach is wide with white sand. The area is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve. Here you will find an abundance of tourists, but very few Portuguese. You will need to take a boat from Tavira or a train from Praia do Barril to reach this beach.

Tips & Warnings

  • Occasionally, Meco's waters are rough. Be very careful if you decide to swim here.
