Make Simple Dog Biscuits

Dogs get tired of the same old food day in and day out—just like we would. From time to time they deserve a treat—especially if they're being good little girls and boys. Here is a recipe for easy, cheesy dog biscuits that are tasty as well as healthy for your pooch.

* This recipe makes 2 to 3 dozen biscuits.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 lb. margarine
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Approx. 1 tbsp. milk
  • Cheese grater (optional)
  • Medium to large mixing bowl
  • Large cutting board
  • Knife or cookie cutter
  • Baking sheet
  1. Step 1

Remove the margarine and cheese from the refrigerator and grate the cheese with the cheese grater (unless it's pre-packaged grated cheese). Let both the margarine and cheese stand until room temperature.

  2. Step 2

Cream the cheese with the softened margarine, garlic and flour in the mixing bowl.

  3. Step 3

Add enough milk to form a ball and chill in the refrigerator for about a half-hour.

  4. Step 4

Dust the cutting board with flour. Roll the dough onto the floured board and cut into dog biscuit shapes.

  5. Step 5

Place the biscuits onto the cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may have heard that garlic can be toxic to dogs. True—that is if your dog eats the equivalent of about 50 cloves in one sitting. On the contrary, small amounts of garlic, as found in these biscuits, actually contain healing and immune-boosting properties—as well as serve as a natural flea repellent.
  • Let Fido mange (that's MON-jeh) the biscuits—as long as he doesn’t go to town. With garlic, as with the other main ingredient, cheese—the key is moderation, moderation, moderation.
