Writing for Search engines requires an eye for formatting and content in such a way search engines as well as people can read and get something from it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Good Grammar, Spell Checker, Proof Reader
  1. Step 1

Determine what you are going to write about

  2. Step 2

Before starting to actually write, create a small outline with at least 3 sections to emphasize

  3. Step 3

Prioritize the sections based on importance to the overall topic as mot readers of web content browse.

  4. Step 4

The first sections ( most important ) first sentence should focus on the overall topic.

i.e. This is what search engines will also focus on.

  5. Step 5

If possible, try to include some bullet points in the first section. ( Search engines also focus on bullet list )

  6. Step 6

Once your article is written, revisit and write a brief summary that emphasizes the 3 sections.

  7. Step 7

Have someone proof read to see if it makes sense to them.
( This is probably the most important step )

  8. Step 8

If any changes are suggested, try and incorporate these changes. ( It's very hard to be critical when you are looking at things your own way ).

Tips & Warnings
  • Before Hitting the Publish Button, have someone you think understands the content to review and proof to see if it makes sense to them.
  • If you are controlling the code, try and use <h3></h3> & <h4></h4> tags where appropriate ( again, search engines love these things.
  • Have Fun, write at your pace
  • Never write when you are emotional
  • Remember, you're not just writing content for people, you are writing content for search engines and they are looking for specifics ( which they do not tell you about ) but if you attend SES conferences, you will learn about what they are looking for and how to get them to read it... for your benefit

on 4/21/2009 I also like to do a little keyword research. Google has a great tool for keyword research that's free. I like to find words related to my topic that have little competition but a high search count. That tells me there is a market available where I can name my price, or at least get the top spot on Google.
