Thanks to GoDaddy, owning a domain name is easy. Whether your intention is to start a Web page, sell the domain name or hang on to it for future use, GoDaddy can help.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Register Your Domain

Step1
Go to the home page for GoDaddy (see Resources below).
Step2
Begin a search for a domain name you want to register by typing it in one of the "Domain Search" boxes on the home page. Click "Go."
Step3
Select an additional domain name or multiple domain names from the options provided by GoDaddy.
Step4
Add to the domain name by clicking the "Yes!" button, or decline them by clicking the "Continue to Checkout" link. Create a new GoDaddy account by entering the requested personal information or log in to an existing account.
Step5
Hit the orange "Continue" button and double check your registration information.
Step6
Choose the orange "Continue" button once more and head to the checkout. Decide whether or not to add any additions to your purchase, such as account protection.
Step7
Pay for your domain. GoDaddy will accept payment in the form of credit, checks, PayPal and gift certificates.
Step8
Plan for a time delay once your domain is registered as it takes several hours for a GoDaddy domain to become active. If you've chosen a domain extension different than .net or .com, it can take a day or two to become accessible.

Use Your Domain

Step1
Get quick help with technical issues from the GoDaddy help desk, available 24/7 (see Resources below).
Step2
Log in to your account to utilize the resources on the "Domain Management Page." These can help you decide whether or not to create a web page around your domain, sell it or simply park it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prepare to be flexible with naming your domain as millions of them are already reserved. If you have trouble registering the domain name you want because someone has already taken it, for a fee you can use GoDaddy's "Domain Buy Agent" service to help you obtain it.
  • When you register a domain for your business or for personal use, you want to choose something that's easy to remember and significant in some way.
  • Seek help from the GoDaddy help desk if you're having difficulty transferring a domain to your site. Typically, the trouble lies in not entering the correct information required by GoDaddy, such as the authorization code.
