How to Go Skiing in Christmas Mountain Village, Wisconsin

Christmas Mountain Village ski resort is located just one hour outside of Madison, Wisconsin, and two hours away from Milwaukee. The majority of the runs are for beginners and intermediate skiers with 20 percent dedicated to hot-dog skiers and snowboarders. You'll also find an inner tube area and 10 km of cross-country ski terrain as well as a 250-foot vertical drop.

    Book Accommodations for Your Trip to Christmas Mountain Village

  1. Step 1

    Book a cottage or townhouse via the resort's Web site (see Resources below) and be sure to ask if you qualify for any discounts. Two-bedroom cottages are quite affordable during the peak ski season. You can also call (800) 456-0009 to book accommodations.

  2. Step 2

    Look into "Stay and Ski Packages," which offer accommodations, lift tickets and some meals in and around Wisconsin Dells.

  3. Step 3

    Take the kids to a water park hotel in Wisconsin Dells. In this busy area, you'll find several hotels with indoor water parks.

  4. Step 4

    Start off a day of skiing with a hearty breakfast from one of the bed-and-breakfast inns located in nearby Wisconsin Dells. You can expect affordable rates and a lodge-style atmosphere.

  5. Step 5

    Book a room at one of the chain motels in Wisconsin Dells, where you'll find some of the area's lowest rates.

  6. Hit the Slopes at Christmas Mountain Village

  7. Step 1

    Check the snow report online (see Resources below) to find out what others are saying about the conditions at Christmas Mountain Village's 40 acres.

  8. Step 2

    Get to Christmas Mountain Village by taking I-94 to Highway H, which leads to Christmas Mountain Road, the resort's home.

  9. Step 3

    Learn to ski or just hone your skills with a complete package that includes a ski lesson, lift ticket and rentals. Learn to ski or snowboard for free on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

  10. Step 4

    Drop the kids off at the Mountain Kids Club (for kids ages 4 to 8) for 2 1/2 hours, and try a few runs on your own.

  11. Step 5

    Hit the slopes after 3 p.m. for discounted rates Monday through Thursday, or spend an entire Saturday at the mountain with an all-day lift ticket that's reasonably priced.

  12. Step 6

    Pack light and rent equipment instead. Basic ski packages are available or you can go for high performance skis or snowboards for a little more money.
