Winterplace Ski Resort, located in southern West Virginia off exit 28 of I-77, offers 28 ski trails along with the most snow-making capability in the region. The resort's long hours (8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends) give you plenty of time to explore the mountain, which has a vertical drop of just over 600 feet and a 3,600-foot summit elevation.

Book a Ski Trip to Winterplace

Step1
Enjoy moderately priced lodging not far from the ski hill. View a list of nearby properties on the 'Lodging' page of the Winterplace Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Dial 1-800-607-SNOW (7669) to book accommodations near Winterplace. Options include private cabins tucked back in the woods, hotel rooms with upscale amenities and access to spa facilities, and a handful of familiar chain hotels.
Step3
Season lift ticket passes may be bought either via phone or on the Web site (see Resources below). A season pass with no restrictions or limitations will cost you the most money, while passes good only for mid-week skiing are considerably cheaper.

Enjoy Your Ski Trip to Winterplace

Step1
Buy an all-day lift ticket and get some night-skiing in, too. This is an advantage over dozens of other ski resorts that require you to pay for night-skiing in addition.
Step2
Tack on a tubing ticket for a moderate fee. You must do this at the time you purchase your lift ticket, or it won't be valid.
Step3
Bring someone who is new to skiing, and their lessons will be guaranteed. If they can't learn to ski by the completion of a single lesson, they can take another absolutely free.
Step4
Pay someone to babysit your kids while you have private time on the slopes. You need to be sure to reserve ahead of time by calling 304-787-3221 or 800-607-7669, ext. 122. Don't be late in picking up your kids, however--an additional fee is assessed for each hour you're late.
Step5
Check the conditions of the slopes before you start your trip to Winterplace (see Resources below). You'll be able to see if any trails are closed and can plan for any bad weather.
