How to Go Skiing in Canaan Valley, West Virginia

Canaan Valley Resort is a winter playground offering just about everything under the sun. Skiing, ice skating, tubing, cross-country, snowshoeing and snowboarding are all available--you can even try out a new trend called 'airboarding.' In fact, Canaan Valley is the first resort in the entire U.S. to provide a park just for airboarders. Located on Route 32 in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, Canaan Valley is three and a half hours from Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh. It has 37 ski runs and a vertical drop of 850 feet.

Book a Ski Trip to Canaan Valley

Step1
Book accommodations online at the Canaan Valley Resort Web site (see Resources below). You can also book by calling 1-800-622-4121 or sending an email to reservations@canaanresort.com.

Choose from a variety of luxurious (yet relatively affordable) lodging, including stand-alone cabins, cottages and rooms within the on-site lodge. The cozy cabins are equipped with fireplaces and full kitchens.

Step1
Expect to pay more for lift tickets during the holidays. If you're on a budget, you can save a considerable amount by coming to Canaan Valley Resort in the off-season.
Step2
Rent your equipment a few days at a time to save money. Rentals are moderately priced and include all the gear you'll need, from boots to skis to poles. Prices are higher over the holidays.
Step3
Get a one-hour airboarding lesson, two hours of play time, equipment rental and a lift ticket for a reasonable price, and come away with a new skill!
