How to Go Skiing in Massanutten, Virginia

In operation for over 35 years, Massanutten, Virginia is a family-friendly ski resort that has activities year-round. You'll find Massanutten just off Interstate 81, about 10 minutes from Harrisonburg, Virginia. There are 14 ski trails to choose from, all equally divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain and lit for night skiing. The total vertical drop of the mountain is 1,100 feet, with a summit reaching to about 2,900 feet.

Book a Ski Trip to Massanutten

Step1
Book your lodging reservations directly through the resort. The number is 1-540-289-4914, and the email address is frontdesk@massresort.com. Visit the resort Web site and view the 'Rentals and Lodging' page to read up on available properties and view the rates, which are fairly reasonable (see Resources below).
Step2
Choose from condos or hotel rooms when you stay at Massanutten. If you're in a larger group, a condo is ideal--the most spacious ones have four bedrooms, full kitchens, fireplaces, decks and hot tubs.
Step3
Plan for a group of 25 or more when you Go Skiing in Massanutten, Virginia, but make your plans in advance. 25 slope-use tickets must be purchased to qualify for group rates. See the Web site for more details or call 1-800-207-MASS. You may also email snowgroups@massresort.com.
Step4
Go to the Massanutten Web site and click on the 'Snow Sports' link, then view 'Season Passes and Specials.' Check out the current rates for passes and make sure to look for discounts--you may get up to 10 percent off if you buy early. Passes and lift tickets at the resort are relatively inexpensive.

Enjoy Your Ski Trip to Massanutten

Step1
Enjoy the view from the top--the vertical drop at Massanutten is the highest of any ski resort in Virginia.
Step2
Finish your finals and hit the slopes. If you book a ski trip as a college student, you'll qualify for a discounted season pass. Be sure to bring your student I.D. card.
Step3
Refer to the Web site before you leave for current snow conditions (see Resources below). You'll find this info under the 'Snowsports' link.
Step4
Pick up a snowtube at the resort if you want an alternative to skiing or snowboarding. In fact, Massanutten was among the first resorts in the area to provide tubing for visitors.
