How to Go Skiing in Mt. Baker, Washington

With a staggering 650 inches of annual snowfall, 7 chair lifts and a vertical drop of 1,500 feet, Mt. Baker Ski Area is a Mecca for avid skiers in the state of Washington. As the main topographical feature of the North Cascades, Mt. Baker summons skiers of varying abilities from all around the Pacific Northwest. There are also many options for lodging nearby, making Mt. Baker a fabulous place for a Washington ski trip.

Book Your Lodging

Step1
Book accommodations online by visiting the Mt. Baker Ski Area Web site (see Resources below). Hover over 'Travelers Info' on the main page, then click on the 'Accommodations' link. You can also call the ski area at 360-734-6771 for help booking a room or suite in one of the local inns.
Step2
Choose from over a dozen area lodgings, including moderately priced all-suites hotels and bed and breakfasts and expensive but super charming chalets. With mountain views and oodles of privacy, the chalets are a good choice for romantics.

Travel to Mt. Baker

Step1
Book flights into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport if you are arriving from out of state. Mt. Baker is situated in central Washington, fairly close to the Canadian border. You can either book a rental car to take the approximately 2 1/2-hour drive from Seattle or book a commuter flight into nearby Wenatchee.
Step2
Drive along the I-5, then take exit 255 near Bellingham. From the exit, drive approximately 56 miles east on State Hwy. 542 to Mt. Baker Ski Area.

Try Nordic skiing, snowshoeing or sledding in addition to downhill skiing. Find more information on the 'Mountain Info' section of the online menu.

Buy a season pass if you plan on skiing at Mt. Baker more than 15 times annually. There are discounts available for families, children, students and seniors.
