A small mid-Pennsylvania resort with a bounty of intermediate slopes, Tanglwood has 2 modern lifts, 2 tow lifts (one for tubing traffic only), full service equipment rentals and a huge tube park. Its smaller stature lends it to a local Wilkes-Barr ski population with less out-of-town traffic than other resorts in the area. Conveniently located just 3.5 miles from I-80 on Highway 390, Tanglwood is one of the most readily accessible Pocono area ski resorts.

Book Travel and Accommodations in Tanglwood

Step1
Book accommodations online directly through the Tanglwood Web site (see Resources below). You can also call 1-888-226-SNOW. You'll have your choice of a few moderate to relatively expensive local lodging providers, including quiet resorts, family-oriented inns and elegant hotels.
Step2
Take a large group of 15 or more people and enjoy hugely discounted lift tickets and rental packages.
Step3
Book travel in to Philadelphia, other Pennsylvania cities like Harrisburg or even New York or New Jersey. Tanglwood is accessible from all these points. When driving from these places, you'll take route 390 north.

Enjoy the Slopes of Tanglwood

Step1
Know that Tanglwood has no more than a 450-foot vertical drop (and a top mountain elevation of 1,750 feet), so the limited black diamond runs run out quickly for advanced skiers. Take the easier way down in leisurely fashion to make the most of your trek up top.
Step2
Be especially courteous of your fellow skiers on smaller mountains like Tanglwood, always looking out for the guy or gal below you and stopping only in very visible locations.
Step3
Try the first time on the snow packages for a cheap 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tanglwood trial run.
Step4
Take advantage of longer winters by opting into the cheap skiing after March 10.
Step5
Get information on current weather conditions at the Tanglwood Ski Area Web site or check out the SkiReport.com Web site for an area ski report online (see Resources below).

Plan Your Trip

Step1
Remember SkiWEE kids programs are available holidays and weekends only, or be disappointed to find your children on their own during your ski trip.
Step2
Arrange lessons well in advance, whether beginner or advanced, especially during weekends, as this small resort has limited student capacity.
Step3
Know that equipment rental rates in Tanglwood, Pennsylvania are slightly higher than larger competing mountains, though slightly lower lift tickets tend to balance this out.
Step4
Use active duty miliatary, senior citizen or junior (under 12) status to take advantage of seriously decreased lift ticket fees.

Tips & Warnings

  • Book online for discount packages.
  • Forget booking an early week ski trip to Tanglwood, which is closed most Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a few holiday exceptions.
