Located in South Central Oregon just a few miles above the California border, Warner Canyon Ski Area is a community-run ski area managed by the non-profit Fremont Highlander Ski Club. Known for its uncrowded conditions due to its remote location in the Fremont National Forest, Warner Canyon offers just one lift serving 14 trails, which cover 200 acres in Lake County.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Credit card to book your ski trip

Book Your Ski Trip to Warner Canyon

Step1
Call the Warner Canyon Ski Area directly at 541-947-5001 to book your ski trip over the phone, and to ask questions about conditions, equipment rentals and lift ticket prices. The Warner Canyon Skihill Web site (see Resources below) does not currently have online booking or a snow report, but you can check conditions online at the Ski Oregon Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Book overnight accommodations in the nearby city of Lakeview, Oregon, which is located nine miles east of the Warner Canyon Ski Area. You'll find a relatively small number of privately-owned inns in the area with standard amenities and rates that are generally inexpensive to moderate.
Step3
Book accommodations by clicking through the links on the Skihill Web site relating to 'Community Resources.' You'll see a list of local businesses that includes camping and RV sites as well as lodging providers. Contact the providers directly using the contact information provided. You can also visit the Oregon Tourism Commission Web site or call 1-800-547-7842 for information on accommodations (see Resources below).
Step4
Consider which airport you want to use to get close to the Warner Canyon Ski Area. Since it is located in such a remote part of the country, hundreds of miles away from the nearest international airport, you should plan on renting a car for a significant part of your journey. You can take US Highway 395 into the area.

Arrive at Warner Canyon

Step1
Check with the representatives of the Fremont Highlander Ski Club once you arrive at Warner Canyon for information about weather and ski conditions, and any safety issues or concerns for that day.
Step2
Arrive early to ensure you get the rental equipment that's right for you. While Warner Canyon is famous for its uncrowded conditions, its rental facilities are quite modest.
Step3
Stay warm inside the day lodge, which features a snack bar and other amenities, or bring your own home-cooked meal and sit in front of the fireplace.

Ski Warner Canyon

Step1
Rent a pair of snowshoes, or a Nordic equipment package, to explore Warner Canyon's 25 km of alpine skiing trails. The mountain has a top elevation of 6,683 feet and an advertised vertical drop of 1,000 feet.
Step2
Drop the little ones off at the large snow playground located next to the day lodge.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will need to purchase a Sno-Park Permit if you plan on parking your car at the Warner Canyon Ski Area. The permit helps to pay for snowplowing and road maintenance during the winter for all of the ski resorts in Oregon, and is inexpensive.
  • There is no booking Web site for Warner Canyon, Oregon.
  • Use online travel engines to read user reviews of hotels and other places to stay near Warner Canyon.
