Located in Tuxedo, New York, Tuxedo Ridge (formerly Sterling Forest) ski area opened in January of 2007. The hill features six trails, four ski lifts and a vertical drop of 400 feet. The location is 35 miles outside the George Washington Bridge over the New Jersey state line. About 70 percent of the trails are intermediate runs, leaving 20 percent for beginning skiers and 10 percent for advanced.

View lift ticket rates on the Tuxedo Ridge Web site (see Resources below). You should find the prices to be fairly reasonable.

Get your car serviced before you make the trip to Tuxedo Ridge. Although the resort is only about an hour from New York City, the mountain is mostly a day resort. Don't get stranded in the snowy weather.
