How to Go Skiing in Catamount Ski Area, New York

Catamount Ski Area in New York has been open since 1939. However, it wasn't until the present owners bought Catamount Ski Area in 1974 that it started to become a popular ski trip in New York. The mountain is not as tall as some of the neighboring ski resorts, but it offers excellent skiing without as many crowds.

Book Lodging at Catamount Ski Area

Step1
Book lodging by visiting the Catamount Ski Area Web site (see Resources below), or by calling them directly at 518-325-3200.
Step2
Know that Catamount Ski Area in New York, has partnered with a wide variety of local hotels that offer package deals. These include lodges, motels and hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts, with prices ranging from inexpensive to expensive.
Step3
Choose a room at one of Catamount Ski Area's many bed and breakfasts, such as the Linden Valley or the Windflower Inn. Linden Valley is only a few hundred yards from the ski area. It offers a complete breakfast in the dining room. The Windflower Inn is AAA rated and has a full breakfast and afternoon tea. Many packages are available including mid-week discounts.

Get to Know Catamount Ski Area

Step1
Land at the Albany International Airport in Albany, NY, or the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT. Both are approximately 43 miles from Catamount. To arrive by car from Albany, take Taconic Parkway South to Route 23 E, then Route 23 E to Catamount. For driving instructions from other areas, visit the Catamount Web site (see Resources below) and click 'Directions and Services' for detailed driving instructions.
Step2
Know that Catamount's summit elevation is 2,000 feet. The vertical drop is 1,000 feet. Catamount has an average snowfall of 75 inches.
Step3
Know that Catamount has 32 trails. The longest one is 2.5 miles. There are 6 lifts and snowmaking covers 98 percent of the ski area.

Prepare for the Slopes at Catamount Ski Area

Step1
Check the Catamount Ski Area snow report by visiting their Web site and clicking on the 'Snow and Trail Report' tab (see Resources below).
Step2
Know that Catamount Ski Area has a 4s & 5s Club. Kids in fourth and fifth grade ski for free, on weekends and holidays, when accompanied by a paying adult.

  • Book your ski trip online to save time and money. There are often specials that are only available online. Check snow conditions prior to booking your trip. Slopes are open based on daily weather activity.
