Plan Your Ski Trip to Black Mountain

  1. Step 1

Book your accommodations online at the New Hampshire Division of Travel and Tourism Development Web site (see Resources below). You can also reach them via phone at 800-FUN-IN-NH.

  2. Step 2

Reserve an on-site vacation rental through the Black Mountain ski resort. Several of these cabins and ski chalets feature ski-in and ski-out access to the slopes.

  3. Step 3

Find a range of accommodations in Jackson, New Hampshire. Splurge on a room at an elegant country inn, complete with Jacuzzi bathtub and in-room fireplace, or choose something more moderately-priced, like a small, simple bed and breakfast.

  4. Step 4

Save a few dollars and book a room at a local motel or motor lodge in nearby North Conway. These accommodations might be uninspired, but they're generally cheaper than most of the lodging options in Jackson.

  5. Step 5

Book a flight into the nearest full-service airport, Portland International Jetport in southern Maine.

  6. Step 6

Hop in your car instead of flying and start your ski trip with a road trip from Washington, D.C. or New York City along Interstate 95. Covering the 550 miles from Washington to Black Mountain, New Hampshire takes approximately 10 hours.

  7. Step 7

Choose the shortest drive to Black Mountain, New Hampshire and fly into Fryeburg, Maine on a private chartered plane. Drive time is just a short 35 minutes.

  8. Enjoy Your Ski Trip to Black Mountain

  9. Step 1

Check on the current ski conditions prior to heading out. Visit the official Black Mountain Web site for a current ski report (see Resources below).

  10. Step 2

Rent all the necessary equipment at Black Mountain. The resort even offers multi-day rental packages.

  11. Step 3

Enroll the kids, ages 6 to 16, in the Junior Race Program, where they can develop skiing technique and skiing etiquette with others of the same age. Children and teens who need help with skiing basic will be best suited to the Black Bear Program.

  12. Step 4

Start your ski day after 12:30 if you're not an early riser or you're still recovering from a fun night out. These ticket prices are cheaper than the regular lift tickets.

Tips & Warnings
  • Book your reservations online to find ski packages that include lodging and lift tickets. Group discounts are often available online as well.
  • To save some money, don't book your trip during the February vacation period as prices for accommodations rise dramatically during this time.
