How to Go Skiing in Showdown Ski Area, Montana

Travel to the Little Belt Mountains and enjoy a weekend getaway at the Showdown Ski Area. Located near Neihart, Montana in the Lewis and Clark National Forest, the resort is just off Highway 89. Its summit elevation is 8,200 feet, its base elevation is 6,800 feet, and there are 34 trails on which to ski. The 1,400-foot vertical drop and 640 acres of skiable terrain make for some exhilarating runs.

Book Your Accommodations and Travel

Step1
Visit the 'Lodging' page of the Showdown Ski Area Web site for a list of accommodations close to the resort, as well as available package deals (see Resources below). Call the individual properties to book (contact info is provided). Contact the resort at 800-433-0022 with your lodging questions.
Step2
Arrange for your ski trip accommodations at a vacation home in or near Great Falls, Montana, and enjoy such amenities as fireplaces, decks and full kitchens. Prices for ski lodges and vacation rental homes are a bit more expensive. Minimum stays restrictions will apply.
Step3
Look for accommodations in Great Falls, Montana. This city is located a little over an hour away from the Showdown Ski Area. Here you will find hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts. Prices tend to be fairly moderate.
Step4
Make reservations to land at the Great Falls, Montana airport. This is the closest commercial airport to the Showdown Ski Are.
Step5
Budget for a rental car that can carry your ski equipment and luggage and can also handle snowy road conditions.

Make Arrangements for Tickets, Lessons and Equipment

Step1
Buy your tickets after you check into your Great Falls hotel. There is a Great Falls office located at 1510 ninth Street South, Great Falls, Montana. It is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays between October and March.
Step2
Learn current prices for lift tickets and season passes by consulting the Showdown Ski Area Web site (see Resources below). Rates are generally reasonable.
Step3
Make sure you have all of the equipment that you need for a great day of skiing. Rentals are available at the mountain, including skis, boots and poles. You'll also find snowbikes, snowshoes and snowblades.
