How to Go Skiing in Maverick Mountain, Montana

Book your ski trip vacation at Maverick Mountain in Polaris, Montana, and enjoy skiing on 24 trails spread over 210 skiable acres. The base elevation of the mountain is 6,800 feet, its summit elevation is 8,820 feet, and it has a 2,020-foot vertical drop. Maverick Mountain is located off Highway 278.

Book Your Accommodations and Travel

Step1
Visit the Official State Travel Information Web site for Montana to see a list of nearby lodging (see Resources below). To get help by phone, call the Office at 1-800-VISIT-MT.
Step2
Find a few moderately priced, charming inns and lodges within a few miles of Maverick Mountain. Look for amenities like fireplaces, decks and whirlpool tubs.
Step3
Find an airport to fly into. Maverick Mountain is located between Missoula and Bozeman, Montana. You can land at either of these destinations and then drive to the ski area.
Step4
Rent a car that is capable of handling the road conditions. During the winter months you will need a vehicle with 4-wheel drive or front-wheel drive in order to get to ski areas.

Make Arrangements for Tickets, Lessons and Equipment

Step1
Determine what passes and tickets you will need for your ski trip. Maverick Mountain offers adult and junior half-day or full-day lift tickets. Prices are reasonable.
Step2
Rent your equipment at Maverick Mountain if you don't have your own gear. Rental prices will be based on the age of the skier and the length of time used. Snowboards and helmets are also available.
Step3
Learn new ski skills from an experienced instructor. Lesson prices are calculated on a per-hour basis. Special learn-and-ski packages are available.
Step4
Buy in bulk and save. If you live close to the Maverick Mountain Ski Area, or if you will be visiting this ski area a lot this winter, consider investing in a season pass. You'll save money when you purchase your pass before September 15.

Tips & Warnings

  • Maverick Mountain is open from mid December to mid April. They are typically open Thursday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The hill is closed on Christmas.
  • Book online to search accommodations by type, including cabins, chalets, hotels and bed and breakfasts.
  • Access the Maverick Mountain Web site for the most current snow reports and updated information about this season's lift ticket prices (see Resources below).
