How to Go Skiing in Great Divide, Montana

Located about 1/2 hour away from the capital city of Helena, Montana, Great Divide is one of the oldest ski areas in the state. The resort is geared toward more advanced skiers, with 50 percent of the 71 trails on its 988 skiable acres classified as expert terrain and a vertical drop of 1,331 feet. People who choose to book a ski trip to the Great Divide ski area can take advantage of its challenging runs, friendly staff and competitive lift-ticket rates.

Book Your Accommodations in Helena

Step1
Book lodging through the official Helena Convention and Visitors Bureau Web site (see Resources below). You can also call them at 1-800-743-5362. In general, expect accommodations in the area to be inexpensive or moderately priced.
Step2
Click on the 'Accommodations' link at the top of the screen. Choose the type of accommodation you are interested in and click on the link. In addition to regular hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, condos and lodges, you will also find information on camping facilities, cabins and vacation homes.
Step3
Stay near the local marina or book a room at an area guest ranch for an unusual and memorable trip.

Travel to Great Divide

Step1
Fly to the Helena Regional Airport in Montana, and then rent a car to get to Great Divide. You'll take I-15 to U.S. Highway 279 for approximately 20 miles.
Step2
Go to the Great Divide Web site for specific driving directions (see Resources below). You can also call Great Divide at 406-449-3746.
Step3
Choose the 'Info Center' option on the left of your screen and click on the 'Getting Here' link. Print out the page with the driving directions and map of the general Helena area. If you are going to be coming from a different city in the area, click on its link to get custom driving directions.

Prepare for Your Montana Ski Trip

Step1
Click on the 'Services' heading in order to get detailed information on lift ticket prices, rental equipment and ski lessons.
Step2
Check for weather updates and current skiing conditions before embarking on your trip. You'll find an up-to-date ski report by clicking on the 'Conditions Today' link.
Step3
Read through the 'Safety and Comfort' section to make sure that you have the right clothing and equipment to make your trip safe and enjoyable.
