How to Go Skiing in Mt. Zion, Michigan

The Mt. Zion Ski Area, located near Ironwood, Michigan, offers a family-oriented, educational environment with great winter sports activities. The Mt. Zion Recreational Complex is owned by the Gogebic Community College. It is open to the public as part of the college's Ski Area Management Program.

Book a Ski Trip to Mt. Zion

Step1
Call the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888-464-3242 to book lodging near Mt. Zion Ski Area, or reserve a room through its Web site (see Resources below). Hover over the 'Lodging & Dining' link and choose 'Lodging' from the drop-down menu which appears.
Step2
Book a room with views of Lake Gogebic, the Upper Peninsula's largest lake. Enjoy moderately priced per-night rates and even cheaper weekly rates when you book a cozy lakeside cabin. Opt for a vacation rental if you want more room to spread out or are traveling with a large group.

Plan Your Ski Trip to Mt. Zion

Step1
Fly into the Gogebic-Iron County Airport. Rent a car to drive to the Mt. Zion Recreational Complex located on the Gogebic Community College campus in Ironwood.
Step2
Check ahead on the snow conditions at Mt. Zion. You can easily find this information by calling the Gogebic Community College at (906) 932-3718.
Step3
Explore the 20 skiable acres that include 10 ski trails and slopes and 2 lifts. The longest downhill slope is 3,960 feet long. The vertical drop is 300 feet, and the complex is professionally managed.
Step4
Enjoy a variety of winter sports. Snowboarding, snow tubing and cross-country skiing opportunities are available along with the downhill ski slopes. Bring your own equipment or rent what you need when you arrive. You can also take advantage of the area's great snowmobile trails.
Step5
Visit the Gogebic Community College Web site for rate information (see Resources below). The ski complex has a reputation for being reasonably priced and family-friendly. Skiers who are age 62 or older can ski for free, and cross-country skiers can use the trail for free. Group rates are available.
Step6
Warm up in the on-site snack bar. Kids will love the chance to get a bite to eat or a cup of hot chocolate.
