Step 1
Book area lodging in or around Charlevoix, Michigan. Call the Charlevoix Area Chamber of Commerce at 800-951-2101 or reserve lodging through its Web site (see Resources below). Click on the 'Visitor Information' link and then click the 'Accommodations' link which appears.

Stay in one of the 60-plus weekly rentals in the area, or book a room in a moderately priced bed and breakfast. You could also splurge on a hotel room with bay views and private Jacuzzi tub.

Fly into the Charlevoix Municipal Airport, then rent a car to drive to Mt. McSauba. The resort is located about a mile from Charlevoix on McSauba Road. Driving can be treacherous in the winter, so come prepared.

Explore the resort's 20 skiable acres. The downhill slopes have a 140-foot vertical drop, and the longest slope is 1,000 feet long.

Bring your own equipment or rent your skis when you arrive. Call ahead for equipment availability and prices.

Cross-country ski with your family. The trail is free, and at there are lights along the way at night. There are additional undeveloped trails that are unlit, so you can get off the beaten path for some peace and quiet.

Enjoy a variety of winter sports at Mt. McSauba. Adults and children alike enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing, snowblading, snowshoeing and snowboarding. A sledding hill is available free of charge and is lit at night.

Take advantage of the area's many snowmobile trails. Snowmobiling is one of the most popular winter sports in Michigan and can be a great back-up activity.
