Book your room in Traverse City, Michigan. Contact the Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau at (800) 872-8377 for a listing of local accommodations, or book through its Web site (see Resources below).

Reserve a room in one of the few area bed and breakfasts, which range in price from budget to moderate. Stay in an affordable condo with golf course views, or splurge on a spa resort or lodge stay. Even the area's most luxurious accommodations are reasonably priced.

Fly into the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City. Rent a car and have the freedom to travel from your lodging to the resort.

Drive to Mt. Holiday. Road conditions can be tough to navigate in the winter, but the roads are kept well plowed. The resort is located on Route 31 at Traverse City.

Explore the skiing, snowboarding and tubing opportunities. The vertical drop is 200 feet, and the longest run is 750 feet. Mt. Holiday has 12 runs with opportunities for every skill level.

Improve your ability with ski lessons from professional instructors. The runs are generally family-friendly, and kids can learn right along with their parents.

Come with the understanding that the resort is a non-profit organization and is very child-oriented. After-school programs, instruction and all-around good skiing and snowboarding are available.

Rent everything you need for downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing. The equipment is reasonably priced, but it's a good idea to call ahead for availability.

Dine at your choice of area restaurants after a day on the slopes. Traverse City is the largest city in this part of Michigan. Enjoy fine cuisine or all-American fast food.
