It's all about skiing when you visit Marquette Mountain, Michigan. The area is home to several ski slopes, and with over 200 inches of snow every winter, the slopes are always ready for downhill excitement. Marquette borders Lake Superior along the northern edge of the Upper Peninsula in some of the state's most scenic and rugged country.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access to book reservations online
  • Phone

Book a Ski Trip to Marquette Mountain

  1. Step 1

Locate a nearby motel by calling the Marquette County Convention and Visitor's Bureau at 1-800-544-4321, or visit the Bureau's Web site (see Resources below). The Web site contains a listing of all available lodging in Marquette County, complete with contact information.

  2. Step 2

Plan to book reservations at Marquette Mountain up to a year ahead of your trip. Rooms are taken fast with many people returning year after year. Enjoy unusual and charming accommodations, like a budget motel with lake views that used to be a train station or a bed and breakfast set in a lighthouse.

  3. Step 3

Purchase individual lift tickets and season passes online at the Marquette Mountain Web site (see Resources below) or by calling 1-800-944-SNOW. Prices are moderate.

  4. Plan Your Ski Trip to Marquette Mountain

  5. Step 1

Plan to fly into Sawyer International Airport, which is located between Marquette Mountain and Gwinn, Michigan. Rent a car to reach your motel, as taxis are almost nonexistent.

  6. Step 2

Drive through a true Upper Peninsula wilderness to reach Marquette Mountain. Road conditions can be tough to navigate during the Michigan winter, so contact your motel or lodge for an update.

  7. Step 3

Ski on the mountain's 25 runs with a vertical rise of 600 feet. There are two double chair lifts, one triple chair lift and one paddle tow.

  8. Step 4

Go beyond skiing. You can rent snowboards at Marquette Mountain, and there are snowmobile trails in the area.

  9. Step 5

Plan to get off the beaten path on a cross-country ski trail. You'll find plenty of adventures on the hundreds of miles of trails. Find a trail in one of the region's many public recreation areas.

  10. Step 6

Check the online ski report before heading out for the slopes. Click on the 'Snow Report' link on the main page of the ski area's Web site.

Tips & Warnings
  • The most convenient way of booking lodging, lift tickets and passes is to use online services.
  • Call ahead for both slope and traveling conditions before you go. You can get this information by calling 1-800-944-SNOW.
  • Gas stations are few and far between in the Upper Peninsula. Fill up when you see one.
