How to Go Skiing in Mt. Jefferson, Maine

Mt. Jefferson is a small ski area near Lee, Maine. It is in Penobscot County, which is fairly close to Bangor. It has a vertical drop of 432 feet, 11 ski trails on 12 skiable acres and three lifts. The longest trail is 3,700 feet. It also has a half pipe for snowboarders.

Plan Your Ski Trip to Mt. Jefferson

Step1
Book your accommodations online. Use the Maine Tourism Association Web site to make online reservations (see Resources below). You can also call them at (207) 623-0363.
Step2
Book a room at a nearby inn or bed and breakfast. Most of these cozy accommodations are moderately priced, although the number of establishments in Lee is rather limited.
Step3
Look for lodging a little further afield. Just down Route 6 is Lincoln, which has several motels where you can book your stay. Prices are relatively cheap at these standard motels.
Step4
Fly into the Bangor International Airport, then drive north on I-95 to Route 6. Not too far east on Route 6 gets you to Lee.
Step5
Hit the road to Lee, Maine, in the Bangor metropolitan area. It is on Route 6 where it meets Route 168.

Enjoy Your Ski Trip to Mt. Jefferson

Step1
Do an alley oop or a frontside indy, a fakie or an ollie. If you don't know what those are, get a snowboard and practice those tricks on the Mt. Jefferson half pipe.
Step2
Learn to ski with Mt. Jefferson's lessons for children as well as adults.
Step3
Take in the peace and serenity of the Granny Trail, which winds around the mountain. Not everyone has to be a speed demon.
Step4
Wait until dark, then ski your heart out on the lighted slopes, open Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Step5
Park your tired self in the rustic lodge and warm up. Have some snacks or coffee in the concession area. It is reported that they have great doughnuts at Mt. Jefferson.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find great specials on area lodging and package deals that include meals and lift tickets when you book your accommodations online.
  • Mt. Jefferson has no snow-making capabilities, so check the snow report before you head out the door (see Resources below).
  • Mt. Jefferson is only open Wednesday through Sunday, so don't go on Monday or Tuesday.
