Sundown Mountain Ski Resort in Iowa features the highest vertical drop of all other ski resorts in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa. This mountaintop oasis has two lodges overlooking the resort, a pro shop, a ski school with programs for children, 21 downhill trails, a terrain park and six chair lifts. The ski resort is located less than four miles from Dubuque, Iowa. Visit Sundown Mountain to experience the area's dual computerized race course, its 300-foot competition half pipe and its powdered ski slopes.

Book Accommodations at Sundown Mountain

Step1
Book accommodations at a nearby hotel, motel, or bed and breakfast by visiting the Sundown Mountain Resort Web site (see Resources below) or by calling the resort directly at (563) 556-6676.

Choose from a number of moderately priced ski-and-stay packages with partnered hotel chains located within five miles of the Sundown Mountain Resort. There are a number of deals that include accommodations, lift tickets and lessons.

Book Your Trip to Sundown Mountain

Step1
Fly into Dubuque Regional Airport, a mere 10 miles from the resort.
Step2
Take US Highway 20 to Dubuque County Road. If traveling from the north or west, you'll then turn right onto Asbury Road. Sundown Mountain will be less than a half mile down on your left.
Step3
Purchase lift tickets, arrange for rental equipment and set up lessons in advance of your trip by visiting the Sundown Mountain Resort Web site or calling the resort.

Enjoy Sundown Mountain

Step1
Visit the resort during its Fabulous Friday events and enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing until midnight.
Step2
Experience thrilling runs on any of 21 downhill trails that reach up to 4,000 in elevation.
Step3
Spend the trip getting air in the Sundown Mountain Terrain Park where a new Monster Wall awaits. Once there, you'll also enjoy a flat-down rail, an S-rail, four adjustable 15-foot rails, box steps and jumps.
Step4
Enjoy the 475-foot vertical drop at Sundown Mountain.
