Chestnut Mountain is a popular Illinois ski destination that has nine lifts and 19 trails with levels of difficulty up to and including black diamond. This full-service resort features an abundance of amenities, including a 20,000-square-foot pro shop, a 120-room guest lodge, restaurants and much more. Visitors will enjoy favorable ski conditions, challenging slopes, fine food, pleasing accommodations, an active night life and amazing views from the resort's locale, some 500 feet above the Mississippi River.

Choose from a number of special getaway packages to make your ski trip a unique experience. There are a number of moderately priced packages that include lodging, lift tickets, ski lessons and more.

Book Your Trip to Chestnut Mountain

Step1
Purchase lift tickets in advance so you can avoid lines and spend more time on the mountain. Daily, weekly and season passes are available online through the Chestnut Mountain Resort Web site.
Step2
Fly to General Mitchell International Airport or Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Both are approximately 130 miles from Galena, Illinois.
Step3
Make your way from I-90 W toward Rockford to I-39 S. Merge onto US-20 and follow signs to Galena. Chestnut Mountain is approximately three hours away from Milwaukee or Chicago by car.

Enjoy Chestnut Mountain

Step1
Visit the Village Ski Center to rent equipment, arrange for lessons or to purchase any ski items or apparel that catch your eye.
Step2
Spend a day snowboarding at Terrain Park and impress friends by showing off your moves on a variety of quarter pipes, half pipes, jump boxes and rails.
Step3
Ski any one of 19 downhill runs and then warm yourself up with a hot cup of cocoa before catching a lift back up the mountain.
Step4
Sign your children up for one of the mountain resort's Powder Programs and let them learn the ropes from a professional instructor while you hit the slopes for a few hours.
Step5
Enjoy the 425-foot vertical drop of Chestnut Mountain.
