How to Go Skiing in Ski Cooper, Colorado

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Ski Cooper, Colorado has the slopes for you. Reaching 11,700 feet, Ski Cooper offers a vertical drop of 1,200 feet and 26 different trails. You can also ditch the trails all together for 2,400 acres of backcountry bowl.

    Book a Ski Trip to Ski Cooper

  1. Step 1

    Visit the Ski Cooper Web site for information on affordable hotels, motels, inns and Victorian vacation rentals in the area (see Resources below). Lodging prices run the gamut from inexpensive to expensive. Book accommodations by calling the providers directly or by visiting the links on the Ski Cooper Web site.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the Colorado Tourism Office Web site for another source of lodging options (see Resources below). You can also call (800) COLORADO for more information. You will book your accommodations directly with the provider.

  3. Step 3

    Reserve some space in the 2,400 acres of backcountry bowl. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (719) 486-2277.

  4. Step 4

    Sign up for ski school and improve your skills. Request private instruction if you prefer the one-on-one attention. Submit your reservation request online and a Ski Cooper representative will call you in return.

  5. Step 5

    Order a season pass online or via the mail if plan on multiple trips. You can also add ski lessons to your season pass.

  6. Step 6

    Book travel to Denver or Colorado Springs for an easy two to three hour drive to Ski Cooper. From Denver, travel west along Interstate 70 until you reach Highway 24. Take Highway 24 south to the town of Leadville. From Colorado Springs, simply take Highway 24 due west until you reach Leadville.

  7. Prepare to Hit the Slopes

    View Ski Cooper's online snow report at the Ski Cooper Web site for the latest news on trail conditions.

  9. Step 2

    Map your trip, both on the roads and on the slopes. View a road map and trail map online to familiarize yourself with the area.

  10. Step 3

    Drop off the little munchkins at day care. Call (719) 486-2277 to make reservations.

  11. Step 4

    Rent equipment if you didn't come with your own. Ski Cooper has skis, snowboards, boots, high performance skis and even a helmet at the on-site rental center. Rates are available online.

  12. Step 5

    Tackle the trails. Ski Cooper has a good balance of beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes.
