Air Glaciers was started in 1965 as an air ambulance with just one helicopter flying among the Swiss mountains. The airline has now expanded their services with both small planes and helicopters that shuttle passengers between Switzerland and the island of Corsica.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

Book Your Flights on Air Glaciers

Step1
Book through a travel agent specializing in European travel. The agent should speak either French or German, as these are the languages available on the Air Glaciers Web site. Expect flight prices to range from moderate to expensive.
Step2
Get more information about the airline by translating their Web site. Type "air-glaciers.ch" into a search engine such as Google (see Resources below). When the results come up, click the "Translate this page" link to the right of the Web site title.

Plan Your Trip

Step1
Choose your arrival city. The airline's departures take off from Sion in Switzerland and can take you to the arrival airports of Calvi or Figari in Corsica, Costa Smeralda or Olbia in Sardinia or Marina di Campo on Elba.
Step2
Travel to Croatia, or go from there to other destinations on the Mediterranean. The plane also lands in Rijeka, which is right on the sea.
Step3
Schedule your own private flight on a small passenger plane and choose your destination. Because of limited regular scheduling, their planes are available for a number of private flights throughout the year, and they will book your vacation complete with private plane for a weekend or a full week.

Tips & Warnings

  • The airline's Web site does not offer an English language translation or booking services.
  • While in Sion, Switzerland, take a helicopter tour of the mountains. See breathtaking views of the snowy Alps and nearby lakes during flights that last anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Air Glaciers flies on many holidays.
  • Take advantage of the airline's rescue helicopter service in both Switzerland and Lichtenstein. They have a single price for all transportation needs, and offer special insurance for those who are going to ski or travel through the Swiss Alps.
