Hokkaido Air System is part of the Japan Airlines Corporation, or JAL. Starting its operations in 1998 and with its main base at Okadama Airport, Hokkaido Air System continues to provide domestic flight service to a number of Japanese cities, mostly in the Hokkaido region.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Book Your Tickets on Hokkaido Air System

Step1
Book your flight by calling Japan Airlines at 011 (+81) 0120 25 5971; if you're using a cell phone, dial 011 (+81) 0570 025 071 instead. You can also book Hokkaido Air System tickets through the Japan Airlines Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Select your specific flight information and seat.
Step3
Pay for your ticket with a credit card, then print out your information and put it where you will not misplace or forget it.

Explore Your Travel Options

Step1
Visit Hakodate on the southernmost tip of the island of Hokkaido. While there, be sure to visit the western fort of Goryokaku, built in 1864. You also might take in the spectacular view provided from the top of Mount Hakodate, which looks over the city.
Step2
Enjoy some of the gourmet foods of Asahikawa. Although the town is small, its food is excellent and varied. Good skiing sites are nearby, but remember to dress warmly in the winter: this is Japan's coldest city.

Choose Your City of Departure

Step1
Choose your Japanese departure city. Hokkaido Air System serves Sapporo Chitose, Sapporo Okadama, Memambetsu, Hakodate, Monbetsu, Kushiro, Sendai and Asahikawa.
Step2
Research to find the most direct flight to your destination. Many airports do offer direct routes to cities served by Hokkaido Airlines. For instance, the Okadama Airport only goes directly to Hakodate and Kushiro.
Step3
Depart from the Kushiro Airport and fly to reach Asahikawa, Hakodate, Sapporo Chitose or Sapporo Okadama.

Know the Hokkaido Air System Travel Policies

Step1
Bring 1 carry-on piece of luggage that weighs less than 10 kg (22 lbs.).
Step2
Check the size restrictions on larger items such as skis, musical instruments and golf clubs.
Step3
Review the travel policies within a day or 2 of travel. These rules can change suddenly, and you will want to pass through security with as little difficulty as possible.

Tips & Warnings

  • Book air travel, car rentals and accommodations over the Internet to find low-cost package deals.
  • The Hokkaido Air System Web site is only available in Japanese. There is no English-language preference currently available.
