Two companies, Japan Airlines International and Japan Airlines Domestic, fly under the parent organization of Japan Airlines Corporation, aka JAL. Currently, JAL has more 747s in operation than any other airline in the world. Follow these steps to book a flight on this Japanese carrier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Book Your Travel Tickets on Japan Airlines

Step1
Book your domestic tickets over the phone by calling JAL at 011 (+81) 0120 25 5971. If you are using a cell phone, dial 011 (+81) 0570 025 071. Book your international tickets by calling JAL at 011 (+81) 0120 25 5931. If you are using a cell phone, dial 011 (+81) 0570 025 031.
Step2
Book your tickets at the Japan Airlines Web site (see Resources below). Follow the prompts to enter information about your cities of departure and arrival, your travel dates, times and seating arrangements. Enter your credit card info to pay for your flight.
Step3
Have Japan Airlines deliver your tickets either electronically or through the mail. Paper tickets can be delivered to an airport or your home.

Choose Your City of Departure

Step1
See what routes are available on Japan Airlines by visiting the online JAL Route Map (see Resources below).
Step2
Select your international departure city from airports all over the world. Japan Airlines is the only Asian airline that flies to Mexico and Sao Paulo in Brazil.
Step3
Choose Japan Airlines to fly to international destinations around the globe. Regular flights go to many cities in China, the Philippines, Cambodia, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia, as well as 7 cities in the United States.
Step4
Choose your departure city from one of many domestic airports that Japan Airlines serves. Many of these airports offer daily JAL flights.

Know the Japan Airlines Travel Policies

Step1
Take 1 carry-on with you into the cabin. The bag must weigh no more than 10 kg (22 lbs).
Step2
Enjoy a free shower if you have a waiting period at the Narita International Airport. You may need a higher-priced ticket for this luxury.
Step3
Know the Japanese security rules before boarding a JAL flight in Japan. Each country has its own particular airport security measures, and you may have a smoother traveling experience if you read about them ahead of time. Reread the security tips just before you go to the airport, since these rules can change daily.

Tips & Warnings

  • Book online to enjoy a variety of services. Japan Airlines now makes it possible to handle ticket changes, reissues and reimbursements through its Web site. Visiting an actual office should not be necessary.
  • Japan Airlines Corporation also owns 7 other smaller airlines, including Hokkaido Air System, JALways, JAL Express, J-Air, Japan Air Commuter, Japan Transocean Air and Japan Asia Airways.
