Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

Book the Ideal Rail Plan

Step1
Book your ticket to Valencia online at the Rail Europe Web site (see Resources below) or call 888-382-RAIL to book. Plan for mid-range prices when booking.
Step2
Uncover more of Spain for less with a Eurail Spain Pass that will allow you the flexibility to customize your plans and visit other points of interest around the country.
Step3
Visit neighboring countries like Italy by taking advantage of the savings and convenience of a Eurail Select Pass.
Step4
Book a group plan if you're not traveling alone. Group plans are some of the most affordable options that Eurail offers.
Step5
Take advantage of additional savings if you're younger than 26 by purchasing a Eurail Youth Pass.
Step6
Book a one-way or round-trip point-to-point ticket from Madrid to Valencia for the most cost-effective option.

Select a Train

Step1
Connect with 8 trains running daily, along with another 5 trains that run a near-daily schedule.
Step2
Select an Alaris high-speed train from Madrid to Valencia and make the trip in just 3 1/2 hours.
Step3
Know that the "regional" train stops at over 20 different points along the route from Madrid to Valencia.
Step4
Obtain an updated schedule to ensure that the train you select is operating. There aren't as many Alaris class trains that operate on the weekends. Plus, schedules do change throughout the year.

Select a Class

Step1
Choose from first-class ("Preferente") or second-class ("Turista") accommodations depending on the level of service and comfort you want as well as on your travel budget.
Step2
Save nearly half the cost of an Alaris second-class ("Turista") ticket by selecting a Regional train when you book your travel from Madrid to Valencia. With this ticket, however, you won't have the option of first-class seats on Regional trains.

Tips & Warnings

  • Book online to bypass long lines at the station you depart from.
  • Make a reservation to guarantee a seat. Your rail pass ticket means you can ride the train. It doesn't guarantee you a seat.
  • It takes between 5.5 and 6 hours to travel from Madrid to Valencia by train. Decide whether or not you want to go with few amenities and fewer comforts by choosing the "Regional" over the "Alaris" train.
  • The departing train closes 2 minutes before departure.
