Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Passport

Choose Luxury Accommodations

Step1
Experience elegance in five-star hotel accommodations in Donetsk. Expect to find high-end furnishings such as chandeliers, rich draperies and marble floorings. Other luxury offerings include butler services, Internet access and complimentary breakfast.
Step2
Choose luxury accommodations in the downtown area of Kiev. Find business facilities for executive guests and other five-star comforts including fitness rooms, swimming pools and a choice of on-site restaurants.
Step3
Enjoy the finest Ukrainian luxuries at the Premier Palace Hotel in Kiev. Expect stellar service and posh rooms for expensive prices. Book your room by calling 011 (+380) 44 537 45 01 or log on to the hotel Web site. See the Resources section below for a link.
Step4
Book a luxury room in Odessa. Private apartments are also available for those looking to stay for an extended period of time.
Step5
Find luxury accommodations at a Lviv hotel. Four-star rooms with a single bed are fairly inexpensive, while rooms with twin beds are moderately priced.
Step6
Stay with the locals to save money. Many people arrange for accommodations by chatting up area residents at the local train station.
Step7
Make your reservations at a four- or three-star hotel in Dnipropetrovsk. Expect to pay expensive prices for five-star accommodations.

Prepare for Your Hotel Stay

Step1
Check for visa requirements. Nationals of several countries will not need a visa if they are just visiting Ukraine. However, if they intend to work or study there a visa is required. Contact the Ukrainian embassy for more information.
Step2
Fly into Ukraine. There are two airports, Boryspil International Airport and Zhuliany-Kyiv. Most of international flights arrive at Boryspil International Airport. You can also arrive by train, drive in, take a bus or take a ferry.
Step3
See the cities of Ukraine by using the metro, trains, trolleys and buses. You can also rent a car. Be aware that the buses are usually crowded. Know that the trains are the most affordable and convenient way to get around and private citizens sometimes use their cars as taxis.

Know Your Destination

Step1
Change your currency. The Ukrainian currency is the Hryvnya.
Step2
Learn the local rules of etiquette. For instance, do not shake hands across a threshold and do not put your thumb between your first two fingers. It is a rude gesture.
Step3
Purchase a phrase book. The official language of the country is Ukrainian.

Visit Local Attractions

Step1
See the Kyiv Pecherska Lavra Monastery and St. Sophia Cathedral, Ukraine's oldest church, in Kiev.
Step2
Travel to Lviv and tour the Lychakivskiy cemetry. This is a resting place for many Ukrainians of repute and is now a historical monument.
Step3
Visit Chernobyl. Tour the city known for its nuclear meltdown in 1986.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is no official tourism Web site for the Ukraine that features online booking. Some of the nicer hotels, however, do host Web sites with online booking capabilities.
  • All phone numbers include the United States international prefix "011." When calling internationally outside the United States, substitute that "011" with "00."
  • All country codes are within parentheses and begin with a "+" sign.
  • To be on the safe side, do not get into a car that already has a passenger.
  • Be aware of certain rules if you plan to drive. Ukraine has a zero tolerance policy on alcohol and driving. They rely on their own abilities to determine if a driver has had a drink.
