Step1
Book a room at the four-star Grand Hotel du Niger, where you will find amenities such as an outdoor pool and a health club. Make reservations by calling 011 (+227) 20 73 22 16 or by visiting the hotel Web site. See the Resources section below for a link.
Step2
Purchase luxury accommodations in Niamey. In this area, you will find five-star hotels, all of which come with standard air conditioning, deluxe restaurants, gorgeous views and pools. Plan to visit the Parc National Du Niger, where you'll need a tour guide to observe an animal menagerie living in their natural environment.
Step3
Sleep over in a quaint guesthouse in Agadez. Plan to visit the Grande Mosquée, a well-known tourist attraction or go to one of the open-air market streets and barter for exquisite leather and silver pieces.
Step4
Hire a licensed guide from an accredited Nigerian travel agency and explore the Ténéré Desert. Spend the night in Agadez to be in close proximity to this magical desert.
Step5
Explore the city of Zinder, which was built in the Hausa tradition. This former capital city has a few luxury hotels for your convenience. Make sure to visit on a Thursday to take advantage of the hand crafted leather goods which will be available at the market.

Plan to fly into the Niamey airport in the capital city of Niger. There are scheduled flights from local airlines that arrive only a few times a week, so prepare in advance. If flying from Europe, try to get a flight from France.

Travel through Niger by bus using the government's SNTV buses.

  • Niger does not offer a central online accommodations booking Web site or phone.
  • Make sure to get the appropriate immunizations. Yellow fever shots and a cholera immunization are mandatory.
  • Niger is ruled by Islamic law. Be sure to familiarize yourself with appropriate codes before traveling there.
  • All phone numbers include the United States international prefix "011." When calling internationally outside the United States, substitute that "011" with "00."
  • All country codes are within parentheses and begin with a "+" sign.
  • Be careful when walking along the borders of Niger, as they are often sites of conflict.
